Visualising Sustainability for Davos 2009

India Innovation Workshop, National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad

26th – 27th December 2008

Background:

A Sustainability Design Charette was organised by the World Economic Forum at New Delhi on the 14th and 15th November 2008. The Charette consisted of mixed groups of of business executives, sustainability experts, designers and design students, and social entrepreneurs.

NID designers Anand Saboo, Vishnu Priya, M P Ranjan, Praveen Nahar, Shreya Sarda and Mitushi Jain participated at the Charette with world industry and expert participants across six groups that examined and developed innovative concepts and frameworks for sustainable futures leading to design opportunity offerings for many sectors of the consumer industry.

The push will now be to understand the ideas that will leverage these broad frameworks into the future. The aspects that currently maintain the status quo must be examined, and concepts that will bring about transformation will have to be envisioned. The broad themes have to therefore be detailed, visualised and made tangible.

The Workshop:

In order to take these themes forward, the National Institute of Design (NID) proposes a two day workshop, ‘Visualising Sustainability for Davos 2009’ on the 26th and 27th of December 2008, where multidisciplinary teams of design students, faculty, and invited experts will explore these themes, and create detailed concepts within each of these broad frameworks.

The outcomes of this workshop will be further developed to be presented at the World Economic Forum at Davos, on the 29 January 2009.
